Biography
Yeonglee Kim, a native of Korea, is an accomplished performer and educator based in both the United States and South Korea. She began her violin studies at the age of three and progressed through the pre-college program at the Korea National University of the Arts and Seoul Arts High School. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Seoul National University. Kim furthered her education at Indiana University, where she received her Performer Diploma and Master’s degree with full scholarships supported by the Jacobs Chairman Awards and Graduate Tuition Awards. Recently, she obtained a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University, studying under the guidance of Professor Kevork Mardirossian.
Kim has achieved notable success in numerous competitions throughout her career. She won the Prokofiev Concerto Competition at Indiana University (2017), secured third prize in the Vladigerov International Violin Competition in Bulgaria (2019), and attained second prize in the Hammelburg International Violin Competition in Germany (2022).
Her passion for chamber music is profound. In 2012, she and her string quartet performed at the Seoul Arts Center and later won a prize at the Glass City Chamber Music Competition in Ohio in 2022. Kim has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Jozsef Lendvay (2007), Daekun Jang (2014), Sungmi Im (2018), and Julia Bentley (2018).
Kim’s exploration of historical performance led her to feature as a soloist with the Baroque Orchestra at Indiana University, where she completed a minor in Baroque violin under the guidance of Professor Ingrid Matthews. She values community engagement and the opportunity to connect with audiences, contributing to the local music community through her participation in concerts organized by Music for Food, MTNA, and the East Asian Studies Center at Indiana University.
Kim has taught numerous students over the years, many of whom have gone on to attend prestigious music programs and schools internationally. She has expanded her teaching experience as an associate instructor at Indiana University and as a chamber music instructor at the Edward Auer Piano Workshop.
Her teachers and mentors include Bonju Koo, Jungho Jeong, Sunny Lee, Heejung Huh, Stanley Ritchie, and Lee Phillips. Kim has also participated in masterclasses led by Namyun Kim, Victor Danchenko, Sergey Kravchenko, Miriam Fried, Mikyung Lee, Svetlin Roussev, Vadim Gluzman, and Ani Kavafian.
